General Description to the School

Gate Pa is a contributing school with a present role of around 350.  The current Principal, Richard Inder took up the position of Principal at the beginning of 2000.

The ethnic composition at present is: 23% NZ Europeans,52% Maori, 10% Polynesian, 11% Asian  and 4% of other ethnic groups.

The main building built in 1951, is a two storied block containing classrooms, library, staffroom, administration area (recently modernised), toilets, medical room, a computer suite, a central resource room for teaching resources and teaching spaces.  There are elevator and wheelchair facilities for the disabled.

Other buildings include Te Whare Kakariki (School hall), August Room-Performing Arts Centre, toilets and dental clinic.  The school has its own swimming pool and changing sheds.   The school has three Adventure playgrounds, a tennis court and a vegetable garden.

The school environment is attractively presented with numerous bark and shrub gardens.  The playing areas include sports fields, a gully with terraces and a native bush area on the back boundary.

A Resource Teacher of Literacy, a Visual Resource Centre, a school Dental Clinic and the Tauranga Hospital School Teacher are all located on the school site.

A number of outside agencies provide services to the school, including the Specialist Education Service, the Public Health Nurse, various members of the advisory service based in Tauranga and at Waikato University and the School Library Service and members of the Advisory Service based at Hamilton.

The school owns a minivan which is used to transport children to and from school.
